Tutor - Dolph Van Eden
Musician (Guitar) - Sol Grimshaw
Figurative Drawings Inspired by Music
By referencing the 1870 paintings of Edgar Degas, Musicians in the Orchestra and The Orchestra at the Opera , artists are invited to respond to the rhythm and movements of a musician in practice and the exquisite form of the musical instrument. The workshop will be divided between still life and figure drawing. Through demonstrations and instruction, the dynamic tension between human form and performing music will be conveyed.
You will be drawing an experienced musician and a highly crafted musical instrument. The class will include lessons in basic anatomy and perspective that will help to dispel ambiguities that can occur in demonstrating foreshortened or complex forms. By the end of the course, you will produce a series of compelling drawings that are informed by balance, movement and music.
