Samuel Staples
Samuel was born in London to a musical family and began playing the violin when he was five after a short-lived but enthusiastic career as a cellist. Aged eight he was awarded a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School where he studied with Natasha Boyarsky and Boris Kucharsky, also receiving classes in chamber music and improvisation from David Dolan. His teachers and mentors since have included András Keller, Vasko Vassilev, Pavlo Beznosiuk, Andriy Vitovych and Sophia Rahman.
As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed across France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Japan and the USA as well as in many major UK venues including St.John’s Smith Square, the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Brighton Pavilion, Menuhin Hall, Windsor Castle, Cadogan Hall and Milton Court and has performed live twice for 'In Tune' on BBC Radio Three. He has also appeared in several Festivals worldwide including the Reims Festival, Menuhin Festival Gtaad, Sejong International Music Festival, AIMS Festival, Langvad Chamber Music Jamboree, Grieg in Bergen Festival, Mendelssohn on Mull Festival, Stamford International Music Festival, Brighton Early Music Festival and the International Musicians Seminar in Prussia Cove.
Samuel is also a keen orchestral musician and has performed as concertmaster with Orpheus Sinfonia, Outcry Ensemble, AIMS Chamber Orchestra, Cavatina Orchestra, Bloomsbury Opera and the Orion Orchestra.
Since 2017 he has been the joint Artistic Director of the Alderney Chamber Music Festival which he runs each summer with his younger sister Louisa.
