Founded in 2019 but yet to perform in public due to the pandemic, The Wren Consort is a new chamber choir formed with a specific purpose in mind: to allow high-quality singers, who for any reason do not usually perform, to gather together and reap the considerable benefits of singing for the sheer joy of it. Comprised largely of former Cambridge choral scholars, the group seeks to emulate the work of such eminent choral directors as the late Richard Marlow who, at Trinity College, would mould an ever-changing and objectively disparate group of young adults whose primary focus was on their academic studies, into a top-notch ensemble. Assembled especially for the first edition of Islington Festival of Music and Art, this smaller incarnation of The Wren Consort duplicates the ethos of the larger choir by drawing together a wealth of talent from different spheres of choral singing – members of The Tallis Scholars, a founder of Stile Antico, top London choral specialists, Oxbridge Choral Scholars and established opera singers, with the aim of creating a unique and unified approach to choral musicianship. This concert marks the inaugural performance of The Wren Consort.
